In Place: Jenna Wilber Finds Home in a New House
By Noelle Mering
I caught up with Jenna Wilber to ask her about a favorite place in her home. She is a Catholic convert living in Ojai, California, with her husband and their four children. You can find her blogging at Wilber Huset.
We recently moved into a mid-century modern ranch house which was quite a change from our 1920’s Spanish style bungalow. Transitions are not the easiest for me and even though this move was so exceptionally good, I still took time to adjust.
This spot in our new living room seemed almost like a bridge from my past to the present allowing me to feel a sense of peace while the house was becoming our home — the piano is the one I grew up playing on at my grandmother’s house, this print by Killscrow was one of the first pieces of art my husband and I bought, and the jars are filled with coral pieces our eldest collected on a trip to Mexico when he was a toddler. All things from our old home put together in one spot in our new place.
When I look at this area, it brings this sense of homeyness to the stark lines and angles of the home’s architecture. We want to reflect the intentionality of the architect while also adding warmth and love and our own personality to hopefully create this unity between nature, architecture, objects, and family.
